Mali’s head coach Henryk Kasperczak has said the draws for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) did not favour his team.
The draws were made yesterday in Equatorial Guinea where Kasperczak’s team is placed in Group D alongside Ivory Coast, Guinea and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
Although the coach said he had good hopes to come out of the group, he thinks it will be a tight contest. Mali will have to improve their defense and holding midfield which showed weakness in the qualifying round. “We have not been favoured by the draw. Like people often say, we fell in the ‘Group of death,” said the coach.
The previous two AFCON have been a success for Mali with a third-place finish in both of them. For this coming edition, we want to take one game at a time and create a conquering spirit.
“We are going to face Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire. And we mustn’t under-estimate Guinea either. I think it is a fairly well-balanced group. All the games will be tight and the qualification should be decided in the last round,” added the Polish born Kasperczak.
