Former two division world champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs) has denied overseas reports that claimed the boxer had practically announced his retirement from the ring.
Maidana has been out of the ring since last September, when he lost a twelve round decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Within a span of 15 months, Maidana had two pay-per-view fights with Mayweather and a big showcase against Adrien Broner.
Between those three fights he made millions of dollars, which is more than enough money to live a comfortable in Argentina for the rest of life. Maidana has packed on a lot of pounds in this layoff period and some of the latest pictures had people speculating that he might weigh 180-pounds or more.
He will need several months of training to wipe off the excess poundage, according to his trainer Robert Garcia. Maidana has made numerous investments from the money that he wonin the ring and he’s making a good enough profit that he doesn’t need to fight.
At the recent WBA convention in Panama, Maidana was quoted as saying – “With the money I’ve won, I’ve invested well. I’m doing things that give me good money and I do not need to fight.”
The statement was taken the wrong way and reporters believed he was walking away from boxing. Maidana is not ruling out the possibility of fighting again in the future, but has no idea as to when or where he will fight again.
