Real’s 1-0 victory at Basel on Wednesday saw Carlo Ancelotti’s side match a club record set by Miguel Munoz’s men in 1961 and Jose Mourinho’s team in 2011
Real Madrid equalled their best-ever winning run on Wednesday after beating Basel 1-0 in the Champions League.
Since losing back-to-back Liga fixtures against Real Sociedad and Atletico in early September, Carlo Ancelotti’s side have now won their last 15 games to match a feat achieved by Miguel Munoz’s men in 1961 and repeated by Jose Mourinho’s side in 2011.
Madrid, who won the three points in Basel thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s first-half goal, kicked off their current streak with a 5-1 win at home to the Swiss side in mid-September.
That was followed by an 8-2 victory at Deportivo La Coruna days later and the run also includes two wins over Liverpool in Europe, plus a 3-1 Clasico success at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Madrid’s winning run was ended with a goalless draw away to Oviedo in 1961, while Mourinho’s streak came to an end with a 3-1 defeat at home to Barcelona.
Ancelotti’s side can now set a new club record of 16 wins by beating Malaga away from home in La Liga on Saturday night.
