Liberty did not scare Hearts of Oak; win boost survival hopes

Hearts of Oak piped Liberty 1-0 at the Dansoman Park on Wednesday on match day 26 of the ongoing First Capital Plus Bank Premier League to boost their survival hopes.

Foovi Aguidi’s 60th minute strike made the difference as the Phobians ended their two game winless streak.

In the early minutes of the game, the Phobians caught Liberty in the cold but they failed to utilize the chance they had and Alfred Nelson in the heart of the home side defense curtailed the danger the away side posed.

The aggressiveness on the part of the Phobians in their quest of beating the relegation drop continued as they bombarded Liberty with a lot of ferocious attack and in the 10th minute Foovi Aguidi missed the best chance in the game, the Togolese import dammy two Liberty defenders and had goalkeeper Daniel Adjei at his mercy but the latter shot the ball into the waiting hands of the former Black Satellites goalie.

The Phobians won the midfield battle as the leading marksman of the Dansoman based club, Kennedy Ashia had Sabbah Laryea to contest with. The away side created a lot of goal scoring opportunities but they failed to hit the back of the net.

Liberty gathered the momentum and push Hearts of Oak back, Kennedy Ashia 25 yard strike was palmed away by Tetteh Lugard, the home side started to find space at the Phobians back four as the Latif Blessing tormented Isaac Oduro with his pace and skills.

Eddie Ansah was forced to make his first substitution after Seidu Mutawakilu came on for injured Tetteh Lugard in the 32nd minute. Both sides failed to get on the score sheet as the first half ended 0-0.

From recess, the Phobians continued were they left off as they dominated the home side but their final delivery was poor but they never got despaired with their attacking mentality and in the 60th minute mark they broke the deadlock through Foovi Aguidi after he was thread by Eric Kumi.

The Phobians never got complacent and mounted intense pressure on the home side searching for their second goal but they spurned those chances. Liberty were not at their best as they failed to live up to the billing, the closet they came, Robin Gnagne saved the situation for the Phobians as George Lamptey and his charges failed to draw level after 4 minutes of time added on.

The Phobians thus boost their hope of surviving in the ongoing First Capital Plus Bank Premier League as their next league game is against Bechem United at the Accra sports stadium.
