A hefty 4-1 loss in the Rome Derby has cost Stefano Pioli his job, with Simone Inzaghi, brother of AC Milan legend Pippo, set to replace the coach at Lazio.
An official statement from the club reads:
“SS Lazio announces that Stefano Pioli has been released from his position as coach.
“The first team will be entrusted to Mr. Simone Inzaghi.”
Pioli had come under scrutiny across the season due to poor results, with the 4-1 hammering at the hands of bitter rivals Roma on Sunday the final coffin nail.
Inzaghi, who had been coaching the club’s Primavera side, replaces Pioli in the dugout, although the length of the new boss’ contract is yet to be released.
