Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie claimed gold in the men’s pole vault at the IAAF World Indoor Championships on Thursday.
The Olympic champion cleared 6.02 metres in Portland, securing the win ahead of Sam Kendricks (5.80m) and Piotr Lisek (5.75m).
Lavillenie tried to break his own world record, but failed with his three attempts at 6.17m at the Oregon Convention Center.
The women’s event was won by American Jennifer Suhr, who also claimed gold at the 2012 London Games.
Suhr cleared 4.90m to beat countrywoman Sandi Morris and Greece’s Ekaterini Stefanidi, clinching her first world title.
