Kuffour was quick to announce Kotoko’s appointment- Herbert Mensah

Herbert Mensah has added his voice to recent reports of the imminent appointment of the ex-Bayern Munich defender and Black Stars defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour as the chairman of Kotoko management and board.

Osei Kuffour, last two weeks confirmed on T.V that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu would be naming him as president of Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the upcoming days.

But sources told Allsports.com.gh that Manhyia palace wasn’t pleased with Kuffour’s decision to let out a conversation he had with Otumfuo, before official confirmation from the king, an action seen as a sign of disrespect.

And Herbert Mensah, who was Kotoko chairman from 1999 to 2002, believes Osei Kuffour should have waited for Otumfuo’s official announcement before making it public.

“I don’t know, I am sitting far away. I don’t know, if somebody told him he is going takeover Kotoko and he was so excited and jumped the gun. I don’t know if he spoke to Otumfuo and he told him this is the case go ahead,” he told Kasapa FM.
“When Otumfuo Opoku Ware spoke to me to takeover Kotoko that was Christmas and I didn’t discuss it with anybody until February. That is me and when I was even sacked, I didn’t say anything about it, because the protocol and etiquette is something that you have to be careful about.

“I believe that the seat of Otumfuo should be respected in many ways, even higher than the seat of the president of the country and therefore you need to be very careful. I don’t know the sort of conversation, he had with Nana, but protocol would suggest that he should have waited”
