Asante Kotoko striker Dauda Mohammed says he is aiming to succeed Berekum Chelsea star Kofi Owusu as the top scorer in 2015/16 Ghana Premier League season.
Dauda, 18, emerged as one of the best youngsters in the league last term, following his enviable partnership with Amed Toure and Obed Owusu in Kotoko’s frontline.
He became a household name when his two goals against fierce rivals Hearts of Oak handed Kotoko a 2-1 away victory in August, pushing Hearts into relegation battle.
“I want to build on my last season performance and fight for the goal king title next season” Dauda told Kotoko website.
“Last season proved to be a perfect one for me. The fact that I managed to carve a niche for myself and scored some vital goals as a young player was an indication of a good work done,” he added.
Dauda scored six goals last season for Kotoko as the club finished second with 48 points, four points below winners Ashantigold, becoming the Porcupine’s second top scorer after Toure, who netted 12 goals.
The Ghana Premier League was slated to kick off on December 20 but pending “bribery and corruption” allegations levelled against Techiman City and Wa African United as well as an “alleged” unqualified player used by Dreams FC in the race to win promotion from the second-tier league have delayed the league’s commencement.
