Kotoko skipper Frimpong eyes Wafa scalp

Asante Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong believes his side will overcome Wafa in the opening game of the Ghana Premier League at the Academy Park in Sogakope on Saturday.

Wafa defeated Kotoko 1-0 last season thanks to Majeed Ashimeru’s strike but the Porcupines skipper insists there will be no repetition.

“We’ve prepared adequately for the game against Wafa and we’re aiming for nothing less than the three points,” Frimpong told Goal.

“Last season, we lost at the same ground and it affected our title defence but we’re not ready to disappoint our supporters again. Losing your first league game in a season can greatly affect your entire ambitions for the campaign so we are not leaving the grounds without all points at stake.

“It’s our target to top the log at the beginning of the season and hopefully finish the season on top to reclaim the title. This is very possible,” he added.

Kotoko arrived in Tema on Thursday with 20 players to train on the synthetic pitch at the Tema Sports Stadium since Wafa play on a similar pitch.

Sports5050 understands that Jackson Owusu, Frank Sarfo Gyamfi, Azeko Mandela, Stephen Oduro, Kwame Boateng and Emmanuel Asante did not travel with the team to play Wafa.
