Asante Kotoko management have condemned the unruling behaviour of the club’s fans following an attack on JEM FM’s Sports Journalists during their last Sunday’s Premier League game against Dreams FC which they won 1-0.

The attacked from Kotoko fans came after referee Nathan Anafo awarded a penalty to the host which the journalists from the Kumasi-based radio station raised concerns over the referee’s decision.

And Communication Director of Kotoko Kwaku Ahenkorah in a press statement signed by him condemned the behaviour of the club’s fans.

“Managers of Kotoko, having fully ascertained what led to the scuffle between some of supporters and JEM FM journalists at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, on match day 23 of the Premier League, condemn the attack on the media men unreservedly.

“We apologise unequivocally to the two journalists who were involved in the brawl. We advise our supporters to put up good behaviour anytime they are at the stadium. The club does not accept violence or physical confrontation as a means to resolving disagreements or differences.

“We believe in freedom of the press and therefore encourage our supporters to be tolerant of dissenting views on the club. We however use this opportunity to urge the media, who have been partners in our business, to continue liaising with us, not just to promote Kotoko but to also serve the interest of Ghana football.

“Management and the supporters’ leadership are bent on identifying who the supporters who were behind that unacceptable act. We assure the general public that, appropriate sanctions will be meted out to them.

Management further appeals to all media personnel to always use the designated area – the media tribune or the press stand for their work. Management pleads with media houses to desist from conducting interviews or doing their work outside the defined media areas at the stadium.”
