Former Captain and coach of Accra Hearts of Oak has stated that despite the fact the Asante Kotoko seems to be the team of the moment in terms of the local league, they can never equal the feat chalked by the 2000 squad of Hearts of Oak.
It is on record that Hearts of Oak is the only Ghanaian Club to have won the four significant trophies in one year as the Phobians managed to grab the League Trophy, FA Cup, CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup all in the year 2000.
This is something they (Kotoko) can never equal and t will take them a lifetime to do because we know the sacrifices we had to endure as a team and the preparations that were involved.”
“I don’t see this Kotoko team as one that can do that especially now that playing in African has become very expensive”, Jacob Nettey stated.
Until recently, the Phobians were the only team to have recorded the double i.e. the League and the FA Cup.
Kotoko by virtue of their hard work last season managed to equal that feat, but were kicked out of the Champions League at the preliminary stages meaning that they still have it all to do again if they are to equal the feat chalked by the Phobians.
“Hearts of Oak will forever be the greatest Club in Ghana because of what we have managed to do in both Ghana and Africa.”
“Last season they won the double and equaled our record, but one thing they can never do is to equal the record my colleagues and I chalked in the year 2000 under coach Cecil Jones Attuquayefio.”
Kotoko will be aiming to shut the lips of their noisy arch-rivals when the 2014/2015 football season commences as they aim to win the treble and beyond.
