Despite Christopher Katongo’s return to the Zambia national team for the 2017 Africa Nations Cup Group E qualifiers against Congo-Brazzaville in March, Rainford Kalaba will remain captain.

Kalaba, the TP Mazembe midfielder, has been Zambia’s captain since January 2015 after veteran forward Katongo was cut from the team in October 2014 by former coach Honour Janza.

Coach George Lwandamina told The Post Newspaper: “Right now Kalaba is the captain. The return of Chris (Katongo) does not mean he will be captain nor can we say Kalaba will remain captain.

“We will discuss it when we are there but it is up to Kalaba.”

Katongo did captain Chipolopolo at the 2016 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament held in Rwanda.

In Rwanda, Katongo scored one goal and helped Zambia reach the quarterfinals where they lost to Guinea.
