Former IBF Champion, Joshua Clottey has ruled out fighting this year after his supposed fight with Canelo hit a snag.
Clottey is currently in Ghana, holidaying, and says his contract to fight Canelo is still intact but is hoping the tough Mexican will be able to shake off his injury on time for the two to slug it out.
Media reports suggested promoters of the fight would arrange a make-shift fight for the former IBF Champion, but the 32 year old has ruled out any imminent fight this year.
“I’m not going to fight this year, I have signed a contract to fight Canelo and I respect that, all that I’m hoping for is for him to recover on time so that we can fight for the fans to see who indeed is strong.”
“I heard a whole lot of things when he said he was not going to fight me, but that is the nature of the sport, people talk anyhow, and again, I can say that the promoters never decided or thought of getting me another boxer on the said date, those reports are not true.”
“I’m now concentrating on my family and I will move straight into the gym again after some small holidays, next year is just here so I have to keep my focus, I want to become a world champion again , and I will make sure I achieve that in no time.”
