Jordan Yamoah wins silver in Pole Vault at AAG

Jordan Yamoah enjoyed a memorable debut in national colours after producing the second-best clearance in the pole vault at 5.20m to win silver at the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo-Brazzaville on Wednesday evening.

Yamoah, who was ranked second in Africa going into the competition, endured a difficult start and only cleared 4.70m on his third attempt.

After regaining his composure, the Texas A & M University- Kingsville student went on to clear 4.80m and led the pack from then on, clearing 4.90m, 5.00m, 5.10m and 5.20m, each time at his first attempt.

He however came unstuck at 5.20m, ceding first place to Algeria’s Hichem Khalil Cherabi who subsequently failed to clear 5.30m to win gold.

Yamoah has been on the Ghana Athletics Association’s radar for a while and missed the 2014 Commonwealth Games after sustaining an injury.

The former NCAA D2 national champion was hoping to be fit in time for the Games but the injury did not heal in time.
