John Terry to miss Chelsea’s trip to Paris Saint-Germain

John Terry has been ruled out of Chelsea’s Champions League last 16 first leg with Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital due to a “minor problem with his hamstring and ligament”.

Captain Terry has yet to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge, but will be sorely missed as Chelsea prepare to face a side who are 35 matches unbeaten in France and 24 points clear of Monaco at the top of Ligue 1.

Brazilian midfielder Oscar has travelled to Paris with Guus Hiddink’s squad for Tuesday’s match at the Parc des Princes after missing the 5-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday night.

Chelsea report that Oscar joined the squad having coming through a training session at Cobham on Monday morning.

The Premier League champions also include Matt Miazga and 18-year-old Jake Clarke-Salter. Brazilian forward Pato is not included in the squad as he tries to build up his fitness.

Terry’s absence is an obvious blow to Chelsea with Kurt Zouma ruled out for the rest of the season and Nemanja Matic suspended. He limped off in the 38th minute of the win over Newcastle with the hamstring strain.

Chelsea could opt to play England centre-half Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic at the heart of their defence for a third straight meeting with the French champions in this competition. Baba Rahman is likely to play at right-back if Ivanovic is moved to central defence.

Chelsea ousted PSG on away goals in the last eight two years ago with PSG avenging that loss at this stage 12 months ago with former Chelsea defender David Luiz scoring in London in a 3-3 away goals win over the two legs.

“We want to go as far as we can in the Champions League and the FA Cup and this is a very important week for the football club,” said Cahill.

“We got off to a great start this weekend and we have arguably the biggest games of the season coming up for us now, so we go into the week with the confidence from this game and knowing how important it is going to be.”

Chelsea squad to face PSG: Thibaut Courtois, Asmir Begovic, Jamal Blackman, Branislav Ivanovic, Baba Rahman, Cesc Fabregas, Oscar, Eden Hazard, John MikelObi, Bertrand Traore, Kenedy, Pedro, Loic Remy, Diego Costa, Matt Miazga, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Willian, Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta, Jake Clarke-Salter
