Injured Zambia striker Patrick Ngoma has been cleared for 2015 Africa Cup duty despite concerns over his fitness.
The Zambia Under-20 star has hobbled through the teams’ three week pre-tournament training camp in Johannesburg with an injury.
Zambia coach Honour Janza said he had decided against calling a standby player and backed Ngoma to heal by the time the team lands in Equatorial Guinea on the eve of the tournament kickoff.
“No more inclusions and replacement. Patrick is improving, but I will not rush him. Apart from the injury, his match fitness level is good,” said Janza.
The striker is one of ten players who will be making their Africa Cup debut for Zambia at the tournament to run from January 17 to February 8.
Ngoma earned his place in the fold after leading the Zambia Under-20 to victory at the 2014 COSAFA Youth Championship held in Zimbabwe where he also walked away with the golden boot after scoring seven goals.
