Former National Chapters Committee chairman (NCC) of Hearts of Oak, Alhaji Akanbi has confidently affirmed by stating that he is still a Board member of the club.
The locus of Alhaji Akanbi on the Hearts board is been questioned after he lost his National Chapters Committee chairmanship position to Barimah Attuahene in June 2014.
According to some fans of the club, Alhaji Akanbi was included in the club’s board to represent the supporters because of his position as the supporters’ leader but they feel that he is no more the National Chapters Committee chairman.
But the supporters of the club are clamoring for the new supporters’ leader [Barimah Attuahene] to replace Alhaji Akanbi on the club’s board.
But Alhaji Akanbi in an exclusive interview with Allsports.com.gh noted that he is still a board member of Hearts of Oak and nobody can kick him out from the board except Togbe Afede who happens to the board chairman of the club.
“I’m still a board member of Hearts of Oak, it was the board chairman who appointed me to represent the supporters on the board because of my hard work, so till Togbe Afede tells me to leave the board I’m still a board member of the club,’’ he said.
The former NCC chairman further rubbished claims that the club’s constitution automatically mandates the NCC chairman to represent the supporters on the board.
“Those supporters saying the club’s constitution states that NCC chairman must automatically be on Hearts of Oak board is totally false; there is nowhere in the club’s constitution that states that the NCC chairman must automatically be a board member of the club. The club’s constitution only states that the supporters’ wing of the club will only get a representation on the club’s management committee,” he added.
