Ibrahimovic: I want to be God of Manchester

After receiving a warning from Manchester United icon Eric Cantona, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has wasted little time in firing back in the Frenchman in his own unique style.

Ibrahimovic joined the Red Devils on a free transfer this summer following the expiration of his contract at French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

It prompted former midfielder Cantona to issue a light-hearted message to the Sweden international via video, as he professed himself to be the King of Manchester.

“There can only be one King in Manchester,” former Leeds United man Cantona declared. “You can be the Prince if you want to.”

However, Ibrahimovic retorted with a declaration of his own, aimed at the French international who won four Premier League titles and two FA Cups with the Old Trafford club.

“This one [Cantona], who I have always admired, should know that I don’t want to be the King of Manchester, but the God of Manchester,” Ibrahimovic claimed.

It is not the first time that former AC Milan and Inter striker Ibrahimovic has made such outlandish statements. Indeed, the 34-year-old insisted that he would remain with PSG if they replaced the Eiffel Tower with a statue of him.

Ibrahimovic has been joined at Manchester United by fellow new signings Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly as coach Jose Mourinho looks to secure a first league title for the Red Devils since 2013.
