Hearts of Oak to fill a protest against Kotoko – Hearts’ PRO Opare Addo

The Phobians have decided to file a protest against the league champions for using an unqualified player.

The Public Relations Officer of Accra Hearts of Oak, Opare Addo has stated that the Phobians are bent on filing a protest against Asante Kotoko to test the laws governing Ghana football.

Asante Kotoko edged their bitterest rivals, Hearts of oak 2-1 at the Ohene Djan Sporst Stadium, Accra on match day 25 of the First Capital Plus Premier League.

The Phobians believe, Obed Owusu, who had one of his best games for the Porcupine warriors in their 2-1 victory over the former, was unqualified to have played that game and will claim that three points in a protest to the Disciplinary Committee.

“We will file a protest against Kotoko, because Obed Owusu was on 4 yellow cards ahead of our game against them in Accra,” he told Metro fm.

“The 4 matches in question are Aduana vs Kotoko on match day 1, Ashgold vs Kotoko on match day 7, Kotoko vs Aduana in the FA Cup and Kotoko vs Ashgold on match day 24.

“To serve as a good precedence, we will file a protest to test the law because we believe Kotoko have gone contrary to the rules governing the league, by using a player who had accumulated 4 yellow cards prior to our match against them.

“We want a proper interpretation of the statutes of GFA because it states a player should serve one match suspension after 3 yellow cards, which means Obed Owusu shouldn’t have played against us.”

Ashgold were the first club to file a protest against Asante Kotoko for the of use Atta Kusi and Obed  Owusu, whom according to the Miners were ineligible to have featured against them.

However, Kotoko have issued a statement stating the protest against them has no substance.

Allsports.com.gh understands that Kotoko allowed the above named players to serve the suspension in their Elite Cup game against Dunkwa United, which took place before their encounters against Ashgold and Hearts of Oak.

But Ashgold and Hearts are arguing that a player can’t use the Elite Cup to serve a suspension, so the bone of contention now is whether the Elite Cup qualifies for that purpose or not.

Hearts of Oak have until tomorrow to file a file a protest against Asante Kotoko.
