Hearts of Oak have sealed a qualification into the quarter final stage of the MTN FA cup after a 1-0 win over third-tier side, Afienya City at the Tema sports stadium on Sunday. The only goal in the game was courtesy Isaac Mensah in the 58 minute.
The lower division side never got despaired as they match the Phobians boot for boot by creating decent chances in the opening stages of game but they failed to hit the back of the net as the Accra based side had it tough in breaking Afienya City’s defense.
The experience of Hearts of Oak paid off as they pinched the midfield of the home side with a lot of square passes but Foovi Aguidi in attack let the Phobians down by blasting his shots wide. The first half ended goalless.
In the second half, the Phobians declared their intention as they mounted an intense pressure on Afienya City; Isaac Mensah and Paul Acquah in most occasions combined to open the home side defense but their strikes went wide.
However in the 58 minute mark, Isaac Mensah opened the scoring for the Phobians when he fired a low shot on the edge of the box from a resulted corner-kick. Four minutes later substitute Landry Bousson who replaced Foovi Agudi missed the opportunity to double the lead for Hearts of Oak.
Afienya City re-grouped searching for the equalizer but the defense men of the Phobians dealt with the threat from the home side as the away side protected their solitary lead.
