Hearts of Oak were crashed out of the 2016 MTN FA Cup by second-tier side Samartex after losing 4-2 on penalties the regulation time had ended goalless at the Samreboi Park on Saturday.
The Phobians were tipped to eliminate the division one side due to their rich history in the competition after winning 10 times but were stunned by the Samreboi based club.
The home side started the opening minute of the game on a good note by dictating the pace and creating spaces at Hearts of Oak defence but they wasted the chances that came their way.
Hearts of Oak with their experience soaked the pressure and warmed themselves into the game with counter breaks on the home side but Foovi Aguidi failed to strike the first goal for the Phobians when he missed a goal scoring opportunity. Chances were far and few as the first half ended.
From the break, Hearts of Oak improved their game as they besieged Samartex goal area searching for the first goal but the home side’s goalie Michael Addo prevented the Phobians from scoring.
Samartex were forced to defend deep due to the attacking play of the Accra giants but the away side attackers were left frustrated as they fluffed the chances as the game ended goalless.
In the penalty shot-out Samartex scored 4 of their five kicks and missed one while the Phobians scored two and missed two in their four kicks.
Samartex have therefore advanced to the round 16 of the ongoing competition.
