When a goal comes from a defender, especially one who is not used to scoring, then obviously scoring a screamer is way above what people expected and it is a better way to register the player’s presence in the mind of football fanatics.
That’s exactly what Harrison Afful did tonight against Chicago Fire at the Mapfre Stadium.
Ghanaian defender opened the scoring in the eight minute with a dipping rocket from a distance to give Columbus Crew the lead. Afful received a corner pass from Mohammed Saeid, controlled it perfectly and produced a stunning curling effort over Chicago Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson. The ball dipped viciously into the top underneath the crossbar just out of Sean Johnson’s reach.
