Harrison Afful is quickly announcing his qualities to Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Ghanaian has taken no time at all to get recognised after he was named in the MLS team of the week 28.
29 year old Afful has been honoured for his heroics in Columbus Crew’s 2-1 victory at Philadelphia Union on Saturday as their push for a playoff spot intensified.
It was only the fourth MLS game for Afful since he switched from Tunisian giants, Esperance last month but the Ghanaian demonstrated he has already settled very well in his new home.
“With a relentless motor and an attacking mindset, the Ghanaian looks perfect for Crew SC and on Saturday vs. Philadelphia, he notched his first MLS assist,” the citation on why he made the team read on the MLS official website.
With five matches of the regular season remaining, Afful’s side sit third on the Eastern Conference table on 44 points, a mere one point behind leaders, New York Red Bulls and 2nd placed DC United.
Only the top two are assured spots in the MLS post-season final series with the next four in each Conference slugging it for the next two spots in each conference in a Final Series play-off.
