Aduana Stars midfielder Yaya Mohammed has lauded the qualities of Ghana skipper Asamoah Gyan, claiming he is better than Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona ace Lionel Messi.
Gyan is Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 48 goals since making his debut in 2003 and is two goals away from hitting the half-century mark.
“What Asamoah Gyan is doing here in Ghana is better than that of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi,” Mohammed told Ashh FM.
“Sadly, we don’t respect him because he is a Ghanaian. I shall always rate Gyan ahead of the two because if Gyan were a European, he would’ve been highly recognised than the La Liga duo, and so we must begin to respect our own.
“Looking at their developments, Gyan did not even play academy football, but Messi has been with Barcelona since infancy and Ronaldo had been with Sporting Lisbon Academy in Portugal before joining the senior side and subsequently moving to Manchester United.
“If Gyan had played in an academy and had the opportunities they’ve had in their careers, Gyan would’ve been a household name by now,” he added.
Mohammed joined Aduana in a two-year deal after mutually terminating his contract with Libyan side Al Ahli Tripoli.
