Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan took part in a competitive local football match [Monday Stars] at the Legon Bawaleshie School Park on Monday evening – exposing himself to injury ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Al Ain ace proved he could still mix it up with the locals when he turned up in his sleek Hummer SUV to pull on a bib for the game.
Gyan’s involvement in the Monday Stars game was his way of keeping himself fit before joining the Black Stars camp to begin preparations for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 29-year-old has been spotted during odd times in various locations in Accra jogging around with his crew of friends.
Gyan is in Ghana on holidays but defied the risk of getting injured in such games – mainly due to the bare uneven playing surface – to have some fun with the locals while maintaining his fitness.
Sulley Muntari suffered a serious knee injury in a similar game sometime back when he was in Ghana for holidays.
The injury saw him suffer a hefty fine from his Italian club AC Milan which has since seen him refrain from taking part in such activities.
Other world football icons like Cristiano Ronaldo have also been restricted from taking part in such casual activities to avoid injuries.
