Gyan cleared of rape and sodomy charges

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has been cleared of all allegations of rape and sodomy, according to his lawyer Kissi Adjabeng.

The development follows a charge by a 22-year-old university student Sarah Kwablah against the Shanghai SIPG striker in June.

In a twist of events, Kwablah was also reported to have blackmailed the former Al Ain attacker with a video tape of their sexual act.

Gyan, over the period, had admitted an affair with Kwablah but claimed it was a consensual act.

“We can confirm to you that Asamoah Gyan has been cleared of all allegations of rape and sodomy charges levelled against him by Sarah Kwabla,” Adjabeng said.

“Asamoah Gyan fully cooperated with the police during investigations which have come to an end.

“At the end, the police forwarded the docket to the Attorney General for advice.

“And on Wednesday, 2nd December 2015, we were called back to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department, Accra, and informed that after a careful study of the docket, the Attorney General has concluded that the rape and unnatural canal allegations made by Sarah Kwablah against Asamoah Gyan are totally baseless and that the docket should be closed.”

Adjabeng again disclosed that Kwablah, who also accused Gyan of impregnating her, has dropped all charges and does not wish to pursue the case further.
