Avram Grant has to name his final 23 man squad before midnight of today, Wednesday, January 7.
The Israeli named an initial 31 man provisional squad but trimmed it to 26 players before the team enplaned to Spain where they are having their pre-tournament camping.
All the 26 players have the final chance to impress during today’s friendly with Olhanense on Wednesday.
Amongst the 26 players , Goalkeepers Fatau Dauda, Ernest Sowah and Razak Brimah are likely to be maintained after the exclusion of Stephen Adams who was in the provisional 31 man squad.
That means that out of the 23 remaining, 20 players have to be selected to add up to the 3 Goalkeepers to make final 23 man squad for the 2015 African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
As it stands, there are injury concerns surrounding some players like Turkey based striker Abdul Majeed Waris and Leicester City forward Jeffrey Schlupp though Schlupp’s injury concerns are not as serious as Waris.
If things remain like this then Avram’s decision could be made easier by excluding these two players. That leaves one more to be dropped from the squad.
The congested midfield means that the cut is likely to be from the midfield position, Afriyie Acquah along with AIK star Ibrahim Moro have been tipped for the cut.
Defender Kwabena Adusei, David Amartey, Edwin Gyimah, and striker Akwesi Appiahis are all candidates likely to be dropped.
The tournament is scheduled to come on from 17 January to 8 February and Ghana has been drawn in a difficult Group C alongside Senegal, Algeria and South Africa for the tournament.
