GPL Preview: Techiman City vs Hearts – Can Hearts bounce back?

Premier League debutantes Techiman City impressive home record in the ongoing Ghana Premier League will come under severe threat as they will be hosting Hearts of Oak on match day seven at the Techiman Park.

The two sides have been very splendid in the ongoing campaign as the Techiman based club are yet to lose a game at home while the Phobians are also unbeaten in their three away games.

Techiman City and Hearts of Oak will be meeting each other for the first time since the Ghana Premier League started in 1958.

The performance of Techiman City is not in doubt as the link-up play between their star man Baba ‘John’ Mahama and experienced Issaka Ibrahim have been one of the best in the Premier League while the Phobians can boast of players like youngster Ibrahim Musah, Samuel Yeboah and Isaac Mensah.

A win for the Techiman City will take them to 12 points, but the Phobians will like to maintain their second position or at most leapfrog Wa All Stars from the top of the table and that can only happen if they beat the premier league debutants which will take them to 16 points- hoping All Stars lose to Dwarfs in Wa.

The last time Hearts of Oak lost to a Techiman based club was two decades ago when they went down 1-2 to Techiman Holy Stars and Baba Mahama is optimistic his team can equal that record.

“We know that Hearts of Oak is a big team. We have heard the last time Hearts of Oak came to Techiman they lost 2-1 to Holy Stars and we are ever ready to equal that record,”Mahama toldPulse.com.gh.

“A win will definitely take us to the second position and we are not going to allow that opportunity to go waste, we are poised for action and with the quality we have we will gun them down,” he added.

But captain of Hearts of Oak Robin Gnagne has stated that their last Sunday loss to Wa All Stars is a wake-up call for the team.

“Our loss to Wa All Stars has really taught us some lessons. We are not going to sit down to lose again, our aim is to stop Techiman at their home grounds.

“We know they have not lost a game at home since the season started. But those clubs that lost to them are not Hearts of Oak. We will shock them on Sunday,” Gnagne opined to Pulse.com.gh
