Aduana Stars will have the opportunity to go top of the Ghana Premier League log on Wednesday when they take on bottom-placed Ebusua Dwarfs in the penultimate game of the first-half of the season.
After their incredible resurgence from a dismal start – winning five consecutive games- the Dormaa Ahenkro club were held at home 1-1 on Sunday by leaders Hearts of Oak.
However, with the Phobians’ fixture against city rivals Liberty Professionals slated for Thursday, a win for Aduana will see them topping the log for the first time in five seasons, at least for 24 hours.
Manager Cioba Aristica believes it’s possible to add Dwarfs to their victims after defeating Liberty and Edubiase in previous away clashes.
“A win is not beyond our reach on Wednesday, we are capable of defeating Dwarfs, looking at our performances in recent times,” Aristica told Goal.
“In our game against Hearts, I told them during the break to mark out one player who was very strong but that player punished us, so they’ve learnt the lesson very well and will not repeat it on Wednesday. We’re looking at leading the table since only a win can take us there,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dwarfs’ new manager Prosper Nartey, who replaced beleaguered J.E Sarpong, is hoping to celebrate his first victory after suffering a 2-1 defeat on his debut to Sekondi Hasaacas on Sunday.
“We’re ready for Aduana. They are unbeaten in six games but I hope my players will do me the honour to win the first game under my tutelage,” Nartey said in his pre-match press conference. “It is possible that we can hit the ground running once more. It is a collective responsibility.”
Dwarfs are winless in five previous games, losing three. They scored one goal and conceded eight in the process.
