An outstanding Liberty Professionals side annihilated defending league champions AshGold at the Carl Reindolf Park on Sunday.
Two quick goals in the first half gave the home side control of the game, and took advantage of their home support to hammer Bashir Hayford’s boys in the second department of the game.
Benjamin Eshun opened the scoring after two minutes, but assistant referee ruled out the goal. Liberty Professionals were not let down by the referee’s decision. They kept their head up and a minute later, Ebo Mends nodded home the opener.
The lead was doubled by the ever brilliant Latif Blessing two minutes later. The 19-year-old curled home a beauty from the edge of the box after a brilliant pass from Gerald Arkson.
The two quick goals unsettled AshGold, but they created opportunities that could have resulted in goals to boost their morale, but Osei Baffour was too awful in front of goal.
Liberty Professionals held on headed into the dressing room with a two-goal lead.
AshGold began the second half on the front and quickly got themselves back in the game. Anthony Yerful scored from the left angle to reduce the scoreline, but Latif Blessing restored Liberty’s two goal cushion after Kadri Mohammed failed to get his forehead on Muntari Tamimu’s corner on 55 minutes.
The ball dropped invitingly and he tapped home the his second and Liberty’s third of the afternoon.
Bashir Hayford and his boys were more lost in the game and Liberty took advantage of their loss of concentration and hammered in the fourth and fifth goals through Simon Zibo and Bernard Arthur, ending their wait to beat the Ashanti Gold at the Carl Reindolf Park.
