At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, a lone goal from Kwame Boateng was enough to secure Asante Kotoko a 1-0 win over Hasaacas on Friday, their first win of the season.
Prior to the match on Friday, there was massive pressure on coach David Duncan, who was tasked to bring the Porcupines to winning ways. The win has brought a big sigh of relief to him.
Right from kickoff, the host showed signs that they want to carry the day, as they piled pressure on the visitors who were forced to defend for most part of the first half. The first 45 minutes however failed to produce any goal.
Kotoko continued their dominance in the second half, created chances, but their attacking line with the likes of Dauda Mohammed, Kwame Boateng were misfiring on the night, as they failed to threaten George Owu in post. Owu produced quality saves to deny Ahmed Adams and Dauda Mohammed.
It was all Kotoko show at the Baba Yara and they continued to press for the opener until the 70th minute when former Gt. Olympics striker, Kwame Boateng broke the deadlock.
The win means that Kotoko now has five points and moves to 11th on the league, two positions above hasaacas who sits at 13th with four points.
The Porcupine Warriors have extended their wins over Hasaacas to 45, with 21 ending in draws and the visitors winning 16 of their 82 encounters in the league.
