GPL Match Report: Kotoko 0-1 New Edubiase – Porcupine stunned in Kumasi

The Porcupine Warriors were edged by a goal to nil by the Edubiase lads on Saturday.

Asante Kotoko were handed their first home league defeat of the season by New Edubiase on Saturday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi on match day 9 of the Ghana Premier League.

The sensational youngster for New Edubiase, Prince Antwi struck the lone goal of the game in the 13 minute to give his side their first away win of the season.

Kotoko started the game dictating play, but New Edubiase scored against the run of play in the 13 minute through Prince Antwi.

New Edubiase who were before the game chasing shadows came into the game and it became an end to end action, but there were no further goals in the half.

Back from recess Kotoko threw everything upfront, however, the defence men of the visitors were resolute and also mapped up delaying tactics to frustrate the attackers of Kotoko: Dauda Mohammed, Obed Owusu. Not even the inclusion of Kwame Boateng was able to change anything.

The victory is their 3 at the Baba Yara SportsStadium in 7 previous visits, with Kotoko having won 2 of those clashes.

Last season, New Edubiase succeeded in using 10 men to beat the Porcupine Warriors at the same venue.

The defeat is the first under the watch of caretaker coach Michael Osei, after taking over the team from David Duncan. He had won three games on the trot in all competitions, prior to this game.

The last time Kotoko lost at home was match day 22 against Berekum Chelsea in the 2014-15 season, whereas New Edubiase have fetched their first away win in 11 games in the Ghana Premier League.

Just last week Kotoko defeated Dreams FC at the Dawu Park, while New Edubiase were beaten 2-1 at the Len Clay Sports Stadium.

The Edubiase lads who until this game were lying bottom of the league ladder would lift themselves from the bottom depending on the outcome of the Sunday games.
