GPL Match Report: Hearts of Oak 3-1 Bechem Utd – Hearts go top of the table

By Prince Dulzy

This call might be too early, but truth be told this year seems to be the year of Hearts of Oak as they keep on firing on all cylinders to make sure they don’t lose a game.

How long can they maintain their unbeaten run? Which team can stop them?

Bechme United couldn’t stand the battle against Hearts of Oak as they were defeated 3-1 by an impressive home side, and now Hearts of Oak go top of the Ghana Premier league table.

Eric Kumi back from suspension controlled the midfield with his usual master-piece, and, Samuel Akrofi and Robin Gnagne also did not disappoint in defence as they continue to grow in confidence.

Until the 40th minute when Hearts took the lead with a goal from Samuel Yeboah, the game had been balanced with both teams well composed in midfield and defence.

The visitor pushed for an equaliser after going down by a goal, but the phobians defence were on top of their game, and ensure they maintained their one-goal lead. Goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye was also impressive in post for the Phobians.

Back from recession,Mustapha Esuuman scored the second goal for Hearts of Oak who took advantage of loose marking in the half of Bechem.

Few minutes later Samuel Yeboah and Cosmos Dauda worked very well to link up with Isaac Mensah in the six yards box who made no mistake to make it three for Hearts of Oak.

John Nyamekye scored a consolation goal for Bechem United, becoming the only side to score against Hearts of Oak in the premier league this season.

Hearts of Oak did not push further and maintained the 3-1 scoreline to go top of the table for the first time this season.

Hearts of Oak have a tricky test next weekend against Tema based club Inter Allies, while Bechem play host to Ebusua Dwarfs.
