GPL Match Report: Hearts 1-3 All Stars – Hearts unbeaten run ends in Accra

Wa All Stars defiled all odds to end Hearts of Oak’s unbeaten run by thrashing the Phobians 1-3 at the Accra Sports Stadium on match day 6 of the ongoing Ghana premier league.

The win, thus take Wa All Stars to the top of the league table with 14 points.

It was a beautiful game marred by crowd violence as Hearts of Oak supporters in registering their displeasure regarding the performance of the centre referee, Ernest Baafi threw a lot of missiles on the field.

But notwithstanding the unwarranted incident, a determined Wa All Stars gave the Phobians a lot of problems as they tame the home side midfield.

The Wa based club failed to turn their possession into goals and Hearts of Oak started to warm themselves into game. Isaac Mensah was the brightest spot in the Phobians set-up as he had an easy day on Hafiz Adams.

Wa All Stars kept their composure and in the 22nd minute they stunned the Phobians as Kwaku Asuandzie beat the off-side trap to nod the ball past Samuel Akurugu.

Hearts of Oak fans in protesting the goal threw missiles on the field – forcing the game to be halted for close to six minutes. It took the club’s strategy committee chairman, Vincent Sowah-Odotei to calm the supporters down.

However, immediately play resumed, the away side unsettled the Phobians and they came close in registering the second goal but Richard Arthur’s shot went wide.

In the 36th minute, Wa All Stars scored the second through Richard Arthur after Emmanuel Ocran out paced Robin Gnagne to pull the ball back for him.

From the recess, the Phobians went all guns blazing and substitute Ibrahim Musah reduced the deficit in the 50th minute after he connected home Owusu Bempah’s cross.

Five minutes later, Wa All Stars restored their two goal lead courtesy a wonder strike by Emmanuel Ocran.

The Phobians tried everything they could, but they were held in check by the away side who were much determined to win the game.
