Hearts of Oak were held to a pulsating 1-1 draw game at home by WAFA on match day 8 of the 2016 Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
The result means that the Phobians have gone four games in all competition without a win while WAFA earned their first away point of the season.
The sweet passing movement and the inter-positional play was the order of the day as WAFA dominated the Phobians in the first 15 minutes of the game.
The Sogakope based club tormented the home side as the Accra giants only option was to “Pack the bus” with WAFA having difficulty in penetrating Hearts of Oak’s defense.
In the 20 minute the pendulum swung into Hearts of Oak favour as they came strongly into the game with Isaac Mensah being the torn in the flesh of the away side. With couple of free-kicks around WAFA’s penalty box the Phobians failed to utilize those chances.
The home side however, were made to pay for their profligacy as Charles Boateng in the 33 minute just needed a simple touch to register the first goal for the away side after Soulama Abdoulaye failed to grab Wahab Mumuni powerful drive.
Hearts of Oak regrouped and they came close in restoring parity but Isaac Mensah surprisingly fluffed the chance with the first ending 1-0 advantage WAFA.
From the break, the Phobians improved their performance as they piled pressure on WAFA in search for the equalizer but the Academy lads never gave up as they were resolute at the back.
Razak Abalora in the 56 minute produced the best save of the day after he tipped off Mustapha Essuman’s header to touch but the Phobians wasted the resulted the corner-kick.
The Phobians kept on probing for the equalizer and they had it in the 64 minute after Cosmos Dauda toe poked WAFA’s goalie after he was put through on goal by Isaac Mensah.
After Hearts of Oak goal, the away side tried to unsettle the Phobians but the home side had total control of the game.
The Phobians mounted more pressure on WAFA but the only way for the away side to escape the wrath of the Accra giants was to apply the time wasting strategy which paid off.
However, late in the game WAFA were reduced to ten men after Samuel Tetteh received his second card on the day for an unsporting behavior. With a man down and a seven minutes of time added on, the away side frustrated the Phobians to earn a point.
