GPL Match Report: All Stars 2-0 Inter Allies – All Stars back to winning ways

Having suffered their first defeat of the season against Bechem United on week 8 of the season, Wa All Stars returned to winning ways at home to Inter Allies on Sunday.

Super sub Richard Arthur and Emmanuel Ocran scored to keep Wa All Stars early season pace at the summit of the league table.

Inter Allies had enough rest prior to this game due to Medeama SC’s participation in Africa, and took advantage of Wa All Stars’ long journey to Bechem.

They haunted Enos Adepah’s boys all afternoon, and could have taken an early lead through Ropapa Mensah, but the 19-year-old striker could not finish of a perfect combination with Prince Baffoe.

Ten minutes into the game, Evans Mensah could have made amends for Ropapa’s failure to break the deadlock, but the youngster skied his shot in the box.

At the other end, brilliant Osei Kwame who occupied the post of the Eleven Is To One pulled off super save from Emmanuel Ocran after half an hour into the game.

Inter Allies dictated proceedings and frustrated Wa All Stars. The least opportunity Wa All Stars had fell the way of Maxwell Baako. A touch from Nnamdi, according to the match day referee, was not enough to earn Maxwell a penalty.

Chances went begging at either end, as Kweku Baffoe and Isaac Twum all missed golden opportunities, and the first department of the game ended with its virginity intact.

Enos Adepah brought on Richard Arthur for Bernard Agana in the second half. His presence was immediately felt as he dummied his way into Allies’ box. His finish though, was one to forget.

Herbert Addo adopted the approach of receding possession and closing the spaces in between them. The game plan frustrated Wa All Stars as their efforts were thwarted by the midfield led by Gockel Ahotor.

However, 30 minutes into the second half, Inter Allies found themselves grappling for a point as their effort was heading to a naught.

Richard Arthur headed home the first goal after 75 minutes from Ocran’s cross from the right flank. Inter Allies swamped around Wa All Stars to grab the leveller, but Wa All Stars broke on the counter and scored the second late into added time, courtesy of the industrious Emmanuel Ocran.

Wa All Stars extended their lead at the submit to five points temporarily.
