GPL Match day 4 Wrap: Hearts go to top, Chelsea compound Kotoko’s woes

In matchday four of the Ghana Premier League, Asante Kotoko succumbed to a defeat but rivals Hearts of Oak won in style to open a two-point lead atop the standings.

Asante Kotoko troubles continued as they feel to a 2-0 defeat in the hands of the Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park. Sadick Adams scored a brace to make sure Berekum Chelsea extend their impressive unbeaten home run.

This win means that Berekum Chelsea has now 40 unbeaten home run, which is the best home record by any side in the league. The last time they lost at home was against Amidaus Professionals in 2012.

At the Accra Sports Stadium, Bechme United couldn’t stand the battle against Hearts of Oak as they were defeated 3-1 by an impressive home side, and now Hearts of Oak go top of the Ghana Premier league table.

Eric Kumi back from suspension controlled the midfield with his usual master-piece, and, Samuel Akrofi and Robin Gnagne also did not disappoint in defence as they continue to grow in confidence.

Until the 40th minute when Hearts took the lead with a goal from Samuel Yeboah, the game had been balanced with both teams well composed in midfield and defence. Hearts second and third goals were scored by Mustapha Esuuman and Samuel Yeboah respectively before John Nyamekye scored a consolation goal for Bechem United.

At the Len Clay Stadium, neither New Edubiase Utd nor Inter Allies were able to snatch the maximum points, with both teams sharing the spoils with a 0-0 scoreline in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

While, Ashanti Gold also maintained their unbeaten run at the Essipong Stadium as they held Hasaacas to a 1-1 draw in the Ghana Premier League On Sunday. Eric Bekoe scored for the host but Ashgold levelled through Kadri Mohammed late goal.

Meanwhile, At the Carl Reindorf Park, Liberty Professionals defeated new boys Techiman 1-0 in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday. A goal from Latif Blessing, who scored a header from a Tamimu Muntari cross in the 69th minute was all that the host needed to secure three points. The goal was his first goal of season.

After three straights defeats, Aduana Stars pipped Wafa by a goal to nil at Agyeman Badu Park on Sunday to pick their first three points in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

Pressure was on the home side to deliver the three points for their worried fans, and they did everything they could as they struck the only goal of the game through experienced Godfred Saka’s spot kick.

Before Sunday’s game Wa All Stars played Dreams on Saturday and that match ended in a 1-1 draw with Wa All Stars maintaining their unbeaten run at the Dawu Park.

The game between Medeama and Ebusua Dwarfs was postponed due the Medeama’s involvement in the Caf Confederation on Sunday.
