GPL Match day 4 Preview: Dreams, Wa battle for top position

By Prince Dulzy

Matchday four will definitely produce some thrilling moments as the top two clubs in the premier league meet to decide who will secure the top spot.

Dreams have taken seven points out of nine in their first three matches, drawing 2-2 against Tema based club Inter Allies last weekend. Wa All Stars also played goalless last weekend against Liberty Professionals and have also taken seven points so far.

Dreams is playing at home at Dawu Park and it is a top of the table clash between two unbeaten sides. A win for either side will see them top of the log after the weekend’s fixtures.

Dreams FC are going into the game without influential midfielder Emmanuel Hayford who has been banned for three official matches after receiving a straight red in their league encounter with Inter Allies FC at Tema.

Wa All Stars will be missing the services of versatile defender Abdul Ganiu Ismail and Atta Kofi Yeboah after sustaining injuries in their last league game against Liberty Professionals. Mohammed Awudu and Wahidu Mumuni are likely replacements for the injured duo.

Bottom club Aduana stars face a tough battle against WAFA when they host them at Agyeman Badu Stadium in Dormaa. The club has lost all their matches played in the premier league this season, which is not something a former league champion should be proud of.

The academy boys on the other hand have won two matches out of three, losing 1-0 to Berekum Chelsea in matchday two. However, last weekend they won massive 5-0 against Hasaacas, with Samuel Tetteh becoming the first player to score a hat-trick this season.

With the current form of Wafa, it looks likely that the away side will end up taking all maximum points.

New Edubiase will hope to recover from their shock 1-0 defeat to Bechem United last weekend as they welcome Inter Allies at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi in matchday four this Sunday.

They have been very formidable on home soil in recent seasons and their fans will hope they continue to press home that advantage as they go for the three points.

Inter Allies would be looking to give a very stiff opposition in order to pick something out of this game. Taking only one point in their last two games means that the Tema based club will be going into Sunday game in search of their first away win.

Techiman City who currently sits 6th on the league table will visit Liberty Professionals at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman with the hope of winning. Having won two and lost one in their first three games, the new league boys will seek to surprise the host, a side which sits 10th and have won only one match in the premier league this season.

A win for Liberty means that they will go above Techiman on the league table, therefore both teams will be firing all cylinders to take the maximum points.

Defending champions Ashanti Gold who are unbeaten this season will travel to Sekondi Stadium in Essipong in hunt for three points. They defended very well in holding Asante Kotoko to a goalless draw in their outstanding game in midweek and will need to defend even better as they visit the twin-city of Sekondi-Takoradi.

Hasaacas will seek to avoid another defeat on Sunday to forget the humiliating 5-0 defeat they suffered in the hands Wafa last weekend. Being a side who normally win most of their points at home, will look to keep that norm going with victory in this game.

Accra Hearts of Oak have won two and drawn one of their opening three games and have scored three goals without conceding any and will be huge favourites when they welcome Bechem United on Sunday.

Coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi’s Hearts of Oak have won several admirers following their impressive start to the season, while Bechem United will also be looking to continue from their victory against New Edubiase last weekend.

In Sunyani, Berekum Chelsea play host to the Porcupines, a side which has recorded no win this season having drawn two and lost one in their opening three games, and, will need to up their game if they hope to record their first win of the campaign this weekend.

Chelsea has been one of the most formidable sides at home since they joined the Ghanaian top-flight and will make things difficult for the Reds at the Golden City Stadium this Sunday. Games between the two sides have been fiercely contested with Chelsea picking four points from Kotoko last season.

Meanwhile, the match between Medeama and Ebusua Dwarfs has been postponed with Medeama playing their first leg CAF Confederation Cup game in Tunisia against Libyan side Al Ittihad on Sunday.
