GPL Match day 1 Preview: Defending champions face tricky test against Medeama

By Prince Dulzy

The Ghana Premier League commences today and the big giants, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak will be hoping to kick-off with a winning start.

The Kumasi based club face a tricky test against WAFA at Sogakope, with the former league champions having lost to the Academy boys last season.

Kotoko coach David Duncan will hope to turn things around this season and get a win in their opener.

Hearts of Oak face New Edubiase in the league opener at the Accra Sports Stadium and both teams will fire all cylinders to record their first win of the season.

With the current form of the Phobians, the visitors are favourites to bag all three points, but that is not to say it is a done deal for them.

The Premier League defending champions, Ashanti Gold, will also seek to avenge their Super Cup defeat to Medeama as they face them in their league opener at the Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi.

With the in-form Nuhu brothers, the league champions are likely to send a strong signal that they are in to defend the trophy.

In the other fixtures, Wa All Stars face Sekondi Hasaacas at the Wa Park; Newly promoted side, Dreams FC visit Ebusua Dwarfs in Cape Coast; Bechem United play home against Liberty Professionals; Inter Allies meet Aduana Stars at the Tema sports stadium; and Debutant Techiman City host Berekum Chelsea at Nana Ameyaw Park in Techiman.
