Gnagne scores late to earn Hearts a point

Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a pulsating 2-2 draw at the Accra sports stadium in an outstanding match day 16 league game on Wednesday.

Ashanti Gold as early as the first minute mark of the game registered the first goal after Yakubu Mohammed tapped in a close range pass from Osei Baffuor.

The Phobians accepted the challenge as they mounted intense pressure on the away side but the agile ability of Robert Dabuo kept Hearts of Oak attackers led by Foovi Aguidi at bay.

However, the attacking football displayed by the home side paid off in the 15th minute mark thanks to Foovi Aguidi’s powerful left drive shot that beat Robert Dabuo.

After the equalizer, the Phobians came close to getting their second goal but Awudu Nafiu in the heart of Ashgold defense dealt with all the dangerous attacks initiated by the home side.

From the recess, AshGold winger, Bernard Morrison was the torn in the flesh of the Phobains as they failed to foil his surging run on the flanks. The miners restored their lead in the 68th minute courtesy second half substitute, Didier Kore who was put through on goal by Yakubu Mohammed.

The Phobians had to endure a lot of wild tackles and in 5 minutes of time added on, the referee in the middle awarded Hearts of Oak a penalty after Robert Dabuo brought down Robin Gnagne, however the Ivorian made no mistake to hit the back of the net to level the score for his side.

After the draw, Hearts of Oak now have 21 points and sit at the 12th position while Ashgold extended their lead on the top to 30 points, 4 points separating them from the second placed team Aduana Stars.
