Gideon Baah played the full match and contributed an assist as HJK beat Ventspils 1-0 at home in the Champions League second qualifying round.
The victory—coming on the back of a 3-1 away triumph in Latvia—ensures that the Finnish heavyweights will take their place in the third qualifying round.
Ventspils rarely looked like overturning the deficit they took to Helsinki, and their fate was sealed on 83 minutes when Mike Havenaar scored the only goal of the game.
The effort came following a superb assist from Baah, who demonstrated his fine crossing ability with a wonderful delivery from the flank.
HJK’s Champions League third round first leg match will take place early next week, with the second leg fixture set for the first week of August.
Their opponents will be decided on Wednesday evening, where Slovenian side Maribor travel to Kazakhstan to face Astana, holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg.
HJK entered the Champions League after having won the 2014 Veikkausliiga—the top flight in Finland—their 27th league title.
Baah’s outfit after currently sit atop the Finnish top tier, having amassed 37 points after 20 matches.
The left-back moved to Finland in 2013, after leaving Asante Kotoko, and moved to HJK one year later, having impressed with FC Honka.
