Ghana’s AFCON opponents South Africa line up Zambia friendly next month

South Africa, Ghana’s group opponents at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations have lined up a friendly against Zambia in preparation towards their clash with the Black Stars at the tournament in Equatorial Guinea next month.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed that the friendly will be played at Orlando Stadium on January 4.

“We can confirm that the Zambia national football team will on January 4, 2015 play the South African national team in Johannesburg, South Africa,” said FAZ Communications Manager Nkweto Tembwe.

“The game has been organised as part of a series of matches that Football House has lined up for the Chipolopolo who are participating in the 30th edition of the Africa Cup to be held in Equatorial Guinea.”

Zambia qualified for the finals tournament of the 2015 Equatorial Guinea Africa Cup of Nations as Group F runners-up and are placed in Group B along with Cape Verde, Democratic Republic of Congo and Tunisia.

In qualifying, the Chipolopolo won three matches, registered two draws and lost only once.

Bafana Bafana have made a lot of progress since hosting the tournament two years ago when they were eliminated at the quarter-final stage on penalties by Mali.

They qualified as Group A winners in the group that had now deposed champions Nigeria without losing a single match having registered three wins and three draws.

They are placed in Group C along with Ghana, Senegal and Algeria.

The match will be a good test of strength for both the Chipolopolo and Bafana Bafana who will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage.

Zambia and South Africa will represent the Cosafa Region at the tournament.
