Ghana fear no foe boasts Ayew

Andre Ayew has said the Ghana Black Stars will be prepared to battle any team from a tight Group D for a place in the semi-finals of the AFCON on Sunday.

Four-time champions Ghana finished top of ‘Group of Death’ and will take on the runners-up of Group D, which will only be known later today as all four teams – Cameroon, Mali, Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire – are tied on two points apiece.

The winners of Group D may even have to be decided on a toss of the coin.

But Andre Ayew said they will be prepared for any of the teams who advance to quarterfinal in Malabo on Sunday.

“We won a very complicated group and we can be proud of this. But this is only the beginning and now we will try to go as far as we can,” said the Olympique Marseille forward, who was his country’s match winner on Tuesday night against South Africa.

“There are four very good teams in Group D and any one of them will now face us. And we will be ready for this fight.

Skipper Asamoah Gyan also maintained they will slug it out with any of the qualifiers from Group D.

”With such a strong mentality, this team can compete against any team at this tournament,” Gyan said.

“This is my fifth Nations Cup and this was the toughest fight Ghana have done to reach the quarterfinals.

“We fought in every minute of the games, we did not give up, we believed till the end. Determination and character took us through particularly after we lost our first match.”
