The vetting committee of the Ghana League Clubs Association has approved nominations of four members to contest for the presidency.
The four who met the qualifications following a series of integrity checks are Ashanti Gold CEO Kudjo Fianoo, Kofi Poku, Isaac Koomson and Oduro Sarfo. The committee was chaired by Maj. (rtd) Yaw Larson, with Jones Alhasan-Abu and Prosper Harrison Addo as members and the elections have been scheduled for April 21. The swearing in of new executives will take place on April 28.
The race is likely to be shaped by outgoing president Alhaji Raji, as it’s unclear who he will throw his support behind following his decision to allow fresh ideas to run the association at the end of his term.
However, Alex Ackumey and George Amoako will stand unopposed for the positions of vice chairman and treasurer respectively, while John Ansah (WAFA) and George Ofosuhene Peprah (Ebusua Dwarfs) will need confirmation from congressmen as the two premier league representatives. Renowned sports journalist Otuo Acheampong Barimah Boadaa is expected to also receive popular acclamation to represent second-tier sides on the ticket of Asokwa Deportivo.
