Bentaleb got the north Africans’ second late on and with Ghana beating South Africa 2-1 in Group C’s other game, Giresse’s men suffer elimination in the first phase. 90′ + 5′ Mbodji drills a free kick straight into the wall and the referee blows the full-time whistle! Algeria and Ghana go through, so Senegal are out! 90′ + 3′ Taider dribbles forward from the halfway line, getting as close as 20 yards from the goal before opting to release a shot on goal. It’s not a great effort, though, and it’s skewed far wide of the upright. 90′ + 2′ SubstitutionRiyad MahrezAhmed Kashi 90′ + 2′ Algeria make their third and final change with Mahrez, scorer of the first goal, making way for Kashi. 90′ + 1′ There will be four minutes of added time at the end of this game. 89′ Kouyate spins away from Medjani and opts to fire a shot at goal from 20 yards. It’s always spinning away from goal, though, and his team-mates ask why he even went for it! 88′ A chance for Algeria as Mahrez receives the ball on the halfway line and sprints into the Senegal half on the break. The defenders eventually catch up to him and when he cuts inside he is blocked off. 87′ Still, there’s no real sense of urgency from Senegal. They’d need two goals to get the point they’d need for progression now. 85′ Ghana have just gone 2-1 up against South Africa! That means the Black Stars currently sit top of the group, with Algeria dropping to second and Senegal subsequently in third, minutes away from being eliminated. 84′ Badji dribbles inside from the right before cutting towards the byline. He fires a shot at the near post which M’Bolhi holds, but now there’s been a goal in the other game! 82′ Assist Sofiane Feghouli 82′ Goal Nabil Bentaleb GOOOOOOOAAAL! BENTALEB WTH A SCORCHER! Feghouli squares to Bentaleb 20 yards from goal, and the midfielder has space to take a touch and rifle a shot inside the far corner! That’s got to be the three points in the bag for Algeria. 81′ Yellow Card P. Souaré 81′ Souare is the next player into the referee’s book following his lunging challenge on Feghouli. It was dangerous and it was nowhere near the ball, and that’s the game’s 46th foul! 80′ SubstitutionE. SoudaniLacen 80′ Finally Belfodil is introduced, and it is Soudani who makes way for the Desert Warriors. 78′ Yellow Card R. M’Bolhi 78′ M’Bolhi is shown a yellow card for time wasting as he stands over his free kick. Meanwhile, Ghana have equalised against South Africa in the other game. That doesn’t change things for Senegal for the time being, though. 77′ Souare receives the ball near the corner on the left and he cuts a brilliant pass back to the top of the box for N’Doye. The substitute’s shot is woeful, though, and it flies high over the top of the goal. 75′ OFF THE LINE! Mahrez’s cross is parried into the danger area by Coundoul and the loose ball falls to Taider. He sees his shot blocked yards from the back of the net by Mbodji, and Ghoulam’s attempt to follow up is hacked clear after a stop by the keeper. 74′ Senegal just cannot keep create an opening to test Algeria at the moment. Their latest move breaks down and the Fennec Foxes break. 72′ SubstitutionYacine BrahimiLacen 72′ Finally, the change is made by Gourcuff, with Lacen replacing the injured Brahimi. 71′ Diouf gets a cross in from the right which takes an intervention from Bentaleb to keep it from finding Cisse. The subsequent corner is taken short before Souare curls his cross behind the goal. Lacen has also been readied on the sidelines for Algeria. 69′ Brahimi is down once more and has signalled to the bench that he will be unable to continue. He’s holding his back, and Belfodil is preparing himself for action on the sidelines. 67′ Yellow Card Mame Biram Diouf 67′ Diouf has actually been shown a yellow card for arguing his point over his ripped shirt. He’s also been forced off to get a new jersey, but once play restarts he is soon back on the pitch. 66′ SubstitutionSadio ManéDame Ndoye 66′ Giresse makes his final change, with Mane the man to make way for N’Doye. 64′ Brahimi stays down on the right after attempting to win a header on the halfway line so Senegal eventually put the ball out of play. Diouf uses the short break to show the referee his ripped shirt following a challenge from Medjani at the corner a few moments ago! 63′ There’s still no flow to the game, with the referee’s whistle providing far too man interruptions. Another free kick is flung into the box and Mandi nods it behind for a corner. 61′ And they almost get it! Badji fires in a cross from the right aimed for Mane, who slips beforehand and thus can only flick a shot wide of the near post. 60′ With the score in the other game still South Africa 1-0 Ghana, this result would still be enough to secure Senegal’s place in the quarter-finals. With so many potential variables, though, they’ll be keen for the goal that they need in order to qualify. 58′ That’s better from Souare, pushing up on the left and fizzing a low cross into the centre of the box. Again M’Bolhi shows good judgement to come from his line and intercept, though. 57′ Senegal have another free kick on the left, this time in a deeper position, though. Souare’s attempt to flight it into the box falls short, though, and the flick-on is dealt with by Medjani. 55′ Mane slots into the area vacated by Diop following his substiution, and he feeds Diouf out on the right. The Stoke man wraps his foot around the ball to set Cisse up for a shot from a cutback, but Medjani is first to it and he puts it out for a corner. 54′ SubstitutionDiopPapiss Cissé 54′ Senegal make their second change of the night, with Diop going off to be replaced by Papiss Cisse. An attacking switch from Giresse, then. 53′ The free kicks keep on coming, and it’s another one against Algeria as Bougherra catches Mane. 52′ Yellow Card Saphir Taider 52′ Taider is shown a yellow card following a rather tame challenge on Diouf in a wide left position. It probably didn’t warrant that punishment, but his response to the awarding of the foul probably had something to do with it. 51′ Things still aren’t clicking for Senegal. There passing is lacking tempo and accuracy, and a long pass out towards Souare on the left ends up going straight out of play. 49′ Souare gets the free kick over the wall but it lacks the pace to worry M’Bolhi, who shifts a few steps to his left to get his body behind the ball and make a comfortable save. 48′ Medjani is guilty of a foul on Diouf as the pair contested an aerial ball, and it results in a free kick in a promising area for the Lions of Teranga. Can they make it count? 46′ The second half is underway in Malabo! HALF TIME – Senegal 0-1 Algeria: The Fennec Foxes took an early lead through Mahrez, and since then they’ve kept hold of it in confident fashion. Mane has been decent for Giresse’s men, but M’Bolhi has not really been put through his paces just yet. There have been plenty of powerful challenges which have broken up the game, too. Be sure to return to see what happens in the final 45 minutes of Group C! 45′ + 2′ There’s the half-time whistle! 45′ + 1′ We are into the first of two added minutes. Gueye has an effort from distance spilled by M’Bolhi before Bougherra mops up, and moments later Badji has his shot blocked after a quick free kick. Algeria won’t want to concede so late in the half. 45′ Algeria break at pace but Soudani’s pass out to Mahrez on the left is behind the Leicester City winger, forcing him to backtrack in order to keep hold of possession. He then strides diagonally at the defence but a heavy touch enables Senegal to get it clear. 43′ Another wasted free kick for Algeria, as Brahimi’s delivery from just outside the corner of the box on the left flies high over the crossbar. There were plenty of options in there for him, though! 41′ Yellow Card S. Badji 41′ The first yellow card of the game is shown, and it goes the way of Badji after he catches Ghoulam late in front of the dugouts. 40′ Bougherra uses his strength to get across and block Diouf from getting on the end of Badji’s pass. He’s coped well with the Stoke City striker so far. 39′ More good goalkeeping from M’Bolhi! This time coming from his line to stop Mane connecting with Diouf’s knockdown. Algeria counterattack and Mahrez’s cross is put out for a corner by the Senegalese defence. 37′ Mane drives up the centre of the pitch before releasing a pass for Diouf to chase. It draws M’Bolhi off his line as it would’ve been a one-on-one situation, but the keeper judges it well to get his tackle in and send the ball out for a throw in. 36′ There isn’t much of a flow to the game with numerous free kicks being awarded at either end. Brahimi is illegally brought down by Gueye out on the right, but Mahrez’s delivery is sub-par and Djilobodji hacks it into touch. 34′ Mane has been very tricky for Algeria’s defence to pick up, and after coming deep to pick up the ball he is barged to ground by Bentaleb. The set-piece is lifted to the back post by Diop but the whistle goes for a foul inside the box by Djilobodji. 32′ JUST WIDE! Senegal are awarded a free kick in a central position, 30 yards out, and Djilobodji takes on the responsibility. He rifles his low effort through the wall, bouncing it in the box before watching it curl wide of the post! M’Bolhi was scrambling there! 30′ Diouf spins Bougherra as a throw bounces over the pair. He has the pace to beat him to the free ball but as he looks to cut across the centre-back he inadvertently knocks it out of play. 29′ SubstitutionCheikh MBengueP. Souaré 29′ Finally the change is made, with a clearly groggy M’Bengue being replaced by Souare. 27′ Feghouli slides a fantastic down the channel for Mandi to chase, but the right-back’s cross from the byline goes straight out of play. He had Soudani in a great position there, and if he’d found him it could’ve been another goal. 25′ M’Bengue is down on the sidelines after a clash of heads with Mandi, drawing blood from the Senegalese. The Algerian right-back seems to be fine, but Giresse has asked Papa Souare to begin his warm up by the dugout. 23′ Diop pokes the ball away from Medjani in midfield but the centre-back catches him late. The referee looks to allow the advantage but when Senegal lose possession he awards the free kick. 21′ Soudani comes out to the right and, upon receiving the ball, he dribbles in field. Space opens up for him to pull the trigger and he sees his left-footed effort parried away by Coundoul! Senegal quickly get it up the other end, where Mane blazes over the top after dribbling into the box. 20′ Algeria certainly look the more dangerous of these two sides, though there is little urgency from them having already taken the lead. 18′ South Africa have taken the lead in Group C’s other game, sending them level on points with Senegal now, though they sit third on goal difference. It’s going to be a dramatic night! 16′ GHOULAM! The left-back clearly has plenty of confidence in his ability, shooting for goal from a free kick just outside the centre circle in the Senegal half. He hits it with plenty of power and swerve, but the keeper watches it all the way and makes a fairly comfortable save. 15′ Senegal have struggled to get going so far and they are unable to build a prolonged spell of possession inside the Algeria half. 13′ That was really dreadful marking from Mbodji there. He showed no awareness of his surroundings and it’s cost his team a goal. A goal in the other game could now be enough to send them out! 11′ Assist Madjid Bougherra 11′ Goal Riyad Mahrez GOOOOOOAAAAL!! ALGERIA LEAD! Bougherra sends a long free kick into the box from deep and Mahrez springs the offside trap, running in behind Badji from the left and sweeping a shot beneath the keeper after a brilliant first touch! 9′ Diouf does brilliantly to latch onto a long ball and turn away from Mendjani and Bougherra to tee up Mane. The Southampton man’s touch is poor and he knocks it out of play for a goal kick. However, his team-mate was originally in an offside position, so Algeria are awarded a free kick. 8′ Algeria hold the upper hand in the head-to-head record with eight wins to Senegal’s four from their 16 previous encounters. However, their 3-2 win in the most recent meeting in 2008 is their only triumph in the last seven meeting between these two teams. 6′ Soudani attempts to skip beyond Mbodji on his way into the box but the centre-back sends him to ground with a challenge. He turns to look at the referee in hope of receiving a penalty, but the official allows play to continue and clearly isn’t interested in that. 4′ Feghouli’s contribution so far has certainly been less than what many would have been expecting. He’s not been heavily involved in many of Algeria’s best moments in the tournament, and that was a great chance for him to put that right. Incidentally, Senegal do appear to be playing with a back three tonight. 2′ OH MY! WHAT A WASTE! A sloppy touch from Djilobodji enables Soudani to poke the loose ball through to Feghouli, and the Valencia man bears down on goal. He is one-on-one with Coundoul but stumbles as he approaches the keeper, losing control of the ball and enabling the keeper to collect it! 1′ We are underway in Malabo! The pre-match formalities are coming to a conclusion, so get ready for the commencing of another potentially dramatic evening of Afcon drama! The teams are making their way out onto the pitch in Malabo, so here come the national anthems. Algeria were victorious in the only previous meeting between these sides in Afcon, winning 2-1 en route to lifting the trophy for the first time. It remains the only time they have won the Afcon title, and they have to ability to rectify that this year. ALGERIA TEAM NEWS: Islam Slimani is still struggling for fitness but Christian Gourcuff picks El Arbi Hillel Soudani as his replacement ahead of Ishak Belfodil, who was ineffectual in the 1-0 defeat against Ghana. Riyad Mahrez comes back in with Medhi Lacen dropping to the bench as the Fennec Foxes return to their 4-2-3-1 formation. SENEGAL TEAM NEWS: Alain Giresse makes two changes from the side that drew 1-1 with South Africa in their previous match, and both come down the right-hand side. Lamine Gassama is replaced by Papy Djilobodji, meaning Ludovic Sane may shift to the right-back position or they will go with a back three, while Moussa Sow drops to the bench to make way for Stephane Badji. Senegal need just a point in order to qualify, but they will be eliminated if they lose and Ghana beat South Africa in the group’s other game. Algeria will simply want to win as only earning will take their fate out of their own hands.
