FCPPL Match day 25 Results and Stats: Kotoko increase Hearts’ woes

Asante Kotoko stole the show at the Accra Sports Stadium after posting a 2-1 win over their arch rivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

Despite suffering a scary robbery attack and the poor treatment of players and officials of the club early in the morning, the Porcupine Warriors rose up to the challenge to push Hearts of Oak from the 14th to 15th position on the log.

Amos Frimpong and Dauda Mohammed were on the score sheet for the away side, while Foovi Aguidi snatched the consolation for the Phobians.

Hearts captain Robin Ggagne missed a penalty in the early minutes of the first half, leaving his side needing to improve greatly in the remaining five matches in order to avoid relegation.

Ashanti Gold finally ended their winless streak after defeating Liberty Professionals 1-0 at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

Prior to the match, the Miners had picked just a point in three matches, and saw their seven-point gap narrowed to two in the process. But Bashir Hayford’s boys managed to pick their first win in four attempts, courtesy of Emmanuel Osei’s first-half strike to consolidate their lead.

At the Coronation Park in Sunyani, former champions Aduana Stars clinched all three points in their away encounter against bottom-placed BA United.

Richard Arhin scored to extend his tally to nine and also put the relegation fight beyond the strength of BA United as the Premier League returnees made a quick return to the second tier.

Nathaniel Asamoah is on his way to winning the top scorer’s accolade after netting his 17th goal against Berekum Chelsea. The home side bagged the equalizer in the second half after Stephen Baffour scored from the spot.

Accra Great Olympics fought hard to steal a point from Sekondi Hasacas, as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw at the Essipong Stadium. Olympics, who are still in the relegation zone, got their goal through Kwame Boateng after Kojo Poku had given the home side the lead.

Wa All Stars remain imperious at home after defeating Edubiase FC 2-1.

Earlier on Friday, WAFA and Bechem United drew 0-0, while Inter-Allies recorded a 2-1 win over Heart of Lions on Saturday.
