Defending champions Asante Kotoko failed to score as they were held to a 0-0 draw by a gutsy Great Olympics side in Kumasi.
The Porcupine Warriors fought hard, but the Olympics defence superbly marshaled by ex-Ghana defender Dan Quaye stood form, whilst Richard Kingson was imperious in goal.
The result however leaves Asante Kotoko in fifth; eight points adrift of top spot.
Midfielder Richard Yamoah struck just before half time to hand Hearts of Oak a 1-0 win over Wa All Stars in Accra. This result came as a welcome relief to Hearts of Oak, who lost 0-3 to Wa All Stars in the corresponding fixture last season.
Nathaniel Asamoah netted a goal in each half, including a penalty, as Medeama SC defeated Aduana Stars 2-0. Asamoah now leads the goal king chart with nine goals after his brace, whilst Aduana Stars now lies third on inferior goal difference after its defeat.
Heart of Lions stays second on superior goal difference despite a 0-2 loss to Bechem United in Bechem. Richard Baffour scored the first goal with in form midfielder Noah Martey scoring in the second half.
In a five goal thriller in Dansoman, Liberty Professionals beat new Edubiase United 3-2. Baba Zakari opened the scores and Michael Appiah soon made it 2-0, but Samed Ibrahim pulled one back for the visitors. Zakari then scored his personal second of the match, before a Fuseini Nuhu strike set up a grandstand finish but Liberty Professionals held on for all three points.
West Africa Football Academy (WAFA)’s fairy tale run continued with a 2-0 win over B.A. United in Sogakope. Club captain Martin Antwi opened the scoring, before Kennedy Kissi Koranteng sealed all three points with a strike in the second half.
On Saturday, goals from Petrus Shitembi and Emmanuel Osei saw Ashanti Gold beat Inter Allies 2-0 in Obuasi and stretch its lead at the top of the standings to 6 points.
