Fatau Dauda Still Regrets Cristiano Ronaldo Goal At 2014 World Cup

Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda says he still regrets the goals he conceded during Ghana’s final Group G match against Portugal especially that of Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to the Ashgold goalkeeper, prior to that game, the world’s best footballer had not been able to hit the back of the net, and the Black Stars defenders were looking to maintain that record, but unfortunately that did not materialize as they ended up losing the game.
“Before the match we talked and deliberated among ourselves on how best we could stop him (Cristiano Ronaldo), and during a large chunk of the game we made sure that did not happen.”
“All we wanted to do was to win the game at least to make sure that we get four points from the group stages because going out with only a point was going to be disastrous.”
“But unfortunately that did not happen because of the own goal we conceded. Then our captain equalized. But unfortunately we allowed Ronaldo to score and that was a very difficult time for us because prior to our game he had not scored any goal at the tournament”, Fatau Dauda mentioned to sportscrusader.com.
He explained that he personally swore not to allow any goal in from Ronaldo, hence his celebration during one of the many saves he made from a Ronaldo goal bound shot.
“It was something we even talked about after the game because it made us very sad. You could see that I was happy during one of the many saves I made on that day. It was just because I swore that I wasn’t going to allow him score against me.”
But according to Fatau Dauda, playing against the best footballer in the world was an experience he will never forget in his football career.
