Ghana’s referee of the year, William Agbovi, has lauded the Ghana Football Association for not mandating newly appointed Black Stars coach, Avram Grant, to win the upcoming African Cup of Nations to be hosted by Equatorial Guinea in 2015.
The Fifa Referee admitted that even though Ghana is a power house in African football, it would have been unfair to have mandated the former Chelsea boss to win the 2015 Afcon with less than two months to the event.
“Looking at the CV of Avram Grant, he seems the right man for the job but it would have been unfair for the FA to have tasked him to win the 2015 Afcon. I strongly believe that the FA considered all those factors before giving him the mandate to win the 2017 Afcon. That decision, to me, is enough. I agree with the FA”, Agbovi said in an exclusive interview with sportscrusader.com
William Agbovi was voted the Best Referee for the year for the 2013/14 league season by the Premier League Board and has won the same award on two previous occasions.
