Former France coach Raymond Domenech has tipped Algeria as Group C favourites in Afcon 2015.
The 30th Afcon has the Algerians paired with South Africa, Ghana and Senegal in Mongomo in what the Frenchman, like many football enthusiasts, admits to be a “group of death”.
“It’s a very difficult group. I think that there are very strong teams in this group,” Domenech said.
He, however, argued that the Desert Foxes will have things relatively easier than the other three teams and tipped them to advance.
“But I think this group is going to be difficult for the other three teams and not for Algeria. I think this group should scare the others,” he said.
“You know that the Algerian team had an outstanding World Cup campaign with a round of 16 finish after a fine performance against Germany – developments which should be added to the achievements during the Afcon playoffs. These make the Fennecs potential favourites of the group.”
Algeria, the first nation to announce their final 23-man squad, will open their Afcon campaign against South Africa in the second game of Group C on 19 January, 2015.
